Author's Note

To sum it all off, this module has introduced me to the importance of instilling an in-depth understanding on the effect of the built environment on the natural environment. It has taught me that every action has subsequent consequences hence to counter the effects, policies and regulations are introduced to improve the current environmental condition as well as to develop awareness towards the said issues. Overall, I have learnt to include sustainable strategies in my design process as well as developed a deeper understanding towards the various sustainable practices and their policies.

Reflection

By the end of this assignment, I have developed a thorough understanding on the purpose and implementations of SDG 7 and 12 alongside the remaining 15 SDGs' especially when in relation with a building's architecture. Under my team, I had the opportunity to attend a site visit to PAM Centre whereby we had an educational tour on the building's sustainable features and technology by the building manager. Throughout the visit, we were given detailed explanations about each of the building eco-friendly features as well as passive design strategies which has successfully contributed to the building's low electricity usage and reduced carbon foot print. Personally, I learned a lot from the visit and the information we gathered as a team has helped us deepen our understanding as well as open our minds towards the importance of implementing sustainable methods and strategies in a building's design process.

In short, this assignment has widen my knowledge on the effects of the local built environment towards the natural environment as well as been a form of exposure towards the realities of our carbon footprint towards the future of this planet. All in all, the sustainable development goals is a great effort to not just counteract the environmental effects but also an awareness platform that encourages companies and developments to take in consideration sustainable practices, hence, the future of our planet will not be compromised.
